PEORIA, Ill. — Crews have secured damages to a Peoria Civic Center entrance after a vehicle crashed into the building early Saturday morning.
Peoria Police said around 4 a.m., officers were flagged down on Main Street on a report of an armed man sitting inside a truck flashing a gun.
PPD identified the man as Cody Poore, 32, who drove off at a high rate of speed onto Madison Street. Officers saw Poore jump a curb, drive into the Civic Center lot near the Memorial area of City Hall, and crash into the glass doors near Exhibit Hall A, damaging two of them.
Officers then observed Poore get out of the vehicle and try to flee, but he was apprehended by officers near the City Hall parking lot.
During the course of an investigation, officers determined Poore’s “firearm” was an airsoft handgun.
Poore was charged with Aggravated Fleeing and Eluding, Criminal Damage to Property, and numerous related traffic offenses. He was released Sunday, and was expected in court Monday.
