PEORIA, Ill. – A Peoria man will go to prison for most of the next seven years for his role in a local homicide.
Peoria County Court records indicate Jamere Laster, 27, was sentenced Wednesday to seven years in prison, after a June plea to Possession of a Weapon by a Felon.
Laster was one of three people initially arrested in connection with the death of Jevon Gilliam, 31, shot and killed outside a South Peoria gas station in late-January of last year.
Marvin Sanders, 32, was found not guilty during a second trial in May on two-counts of murder, after his first trial ended in a mistrial.
Dearian Patterson, 20, could go to trial next month on felony weapons charges.
Laster was given credit for 522 days served in the Peoria County Jail, and will spend a year on parole once he’s released.
