PEORIA, Ill. — Peoria firefighters responded just before 10:45 p.m. Sunday to a commercial fire near the intersection of N. Knoxville and McClure.
Fire Battalion Chief Scott Strum said first crews on-scene found fire in the basement of the King Zone grocery store’s utility area.
Due to an employee detecting the fire and reporting it quickly to 911, the fire was put out in a matter of minutes, and contained to one room.
All occupants of the building evacuated before crews arrived.
A fire investigator determined the fire was accidental.
Peoria Police temporarily shut down Knoxville Avenue. Due to the business selling edible products, the City/County Health Department was notified.
Damage was estimated at $460,000.
No injuries were reported.
