PEORIA, Ill. – A federal jury has convicted a Peoria man of drug and weapons charges.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office says Daryl McGhee, 33, was found guilty Wednesday of Possession of Cocaine with Intent to Distribute, and Possession of a Firearm in Furtherance of a Drug Trafficking Crime.
Prosecutors say Peoria Police were sent to McGhee’s North Hamilton residence in mid-February of last year on a domestic violence report, but left before officers arrived, walking in sub-zero temperatures with a gun in his possession.
Police later found him through snowy footprints hiding behind a bush several blocks away. Officers found the gun and 17 rounds of ammunition, and a K-9 found 140 grams of cocaine.
McGhee is to be sentenced December 12th, and could face as much as 30 years in prison.
