PEORIA, Ill. — Interested in learning about your local government from the inside out?
The City of Peoria and Peoria County are giving residents an opportunity again to sign up for the Citizens Leadership Academy.
The County’s Gretchen Pearsall shares some of the things you’ll see.
“You’ll tour the Peoria County Coroner’s Office, meeting the coroner, talking to him, actually getting a tour of the morgue where they do the autopsies and they have storage. You’ll also see the Emergency Communications Center, where you’ll watch all the 9-1-1 calls come in,” Pearsall said.
Stacy Peterson with the City of Peoria, tells WMBD’s “The Greg and Dan Show”, academy participants will also visit City Hall.
“You get to talk to the mayor and city manager, for example. They give a brief tutorial in local civics and how meetings work, and ordinances…and at the conclusion of the program, you come to a City Council and County Board meeting,” Peterson said.
The Citizens Leadership Academy is limited to about 20-25 people, and it’s free. So, don’t put off applying.
Sessions will be held Tuesday and Thursday evenings in September and October.
