PEORIA, Ill. — The St. Jude Memphis to Peoria runners are making their way down to Tennessee, having left Peoria Tuesday morning.
160 runners, chefs to feed them, and other support staff are headed to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis where they’ll start their run back to Peoria on Wednesday.
WMBD’s own Caleb Kelch, of “The Greg and Dan Show”, is running for a fifth time this year. He spoke with 25 News about how the runners prepare.
“Getting in that strategy of constantly running just about every day, sometimes multiple times per day. And, making sure you have everything packed that you’ll need…that’s essential,” Kelch said.
The Memphis to Peoria runners are divided into two teams. The Gold team is first to run, receiving a send off from St. Jude doctors and nurses, patients and their families, and other supporters.
Kelch spoke about when he will be running.
“We start kickoff at 11 a.m., tomorrow (Wednesday) morning, and then the Blue team, that I’m on, we usually start running about 7 p.m. on Wednesday,” Kelch said.
The Memphis to Peoria runners return home Saturday evening, when they meet up with satellite runners from all over Central Illinois and the Midwest, just in time for the St. Jude Telethon on 25 News.
The run, in its 41st year, raises money to make sure families never have to pay for treatment at St. Jude. They’ve raised $71 million to date.
