PEORIA, Ill. — The Republican Party of Illinois seems to be shrugging off a demand from several GOP state lawmakers to censure Republican U.S. House Representative Adam Kinzinger over his words and place at the January 6th committee in Congress.
On Monday, a group of five Republican state lawmakers the “Illinois Freedom Caucus” in Springfield, demanded the state GOP censure Kinzinger over comments he’s made during the U.S. Select Committee hearings.
Kinzinger has gone as far as to say Trump is entirely unfit to serve in public office and should be seen as a pariah to the nation.
In Monday’s censure demand, State Representative Adam Niemerg called it “appalling” to see Republicans like Kinzinger play a prominent role in the proceedings.
Today, the Illinois Republican Party tells WMBD News it is focused on “uniting the party to defeat Gov. J.B. Pritzker in November”
The Republican nominee for Governor, Darren Bailey, has been endorsed by former President Trump.
Illinois’ Freedom Caucus is comprised of State Representatives Adam Niemerg, Chris Miller; Brad Halbrook; Blaine Wilhour and Dan Caulkins.
