PEORIA, Ill. — There are millions more in federal infrastructure dollars which will go toward funding improvements at Peoria’s main airport.
Today, Democratic Congresswoman Cheri Bustos’ office announced an $8.4M spending item will be dedicated to improvements to one of the runways at General Wayne A. Downing Peoria International Airport.
The improvements will make it so the local air hub can continue to safely accomodate heavy aircraft traffic like larger cargo planes.
Bustos’ office says this grant will fund the final phase of the project, which includes the second design phase and construction.
Bustos said in an emailed statement, “This investment will quite literally pave the way for continued growth at this vital local institution.”
The local airport has already been put in line to receive $15M in federal infrastructure assistance for the construction of a new air traffic control tower.
