PEORIA, Ill. – The Peoria Park District says one of the animals at the Peoria Zoo has died.
Zoo officials say “Brody” — a male mandrill — had only been at the zoo “a relatively short period of time” according to a release, and died Friday.
The cause of death was not disclosed.
“While he was with us, Brody matured from a juvenile to an adult mandrill,” said Yvonne Strode, Zoo Director, said in a news release. “It wasn’t an easy transition but we were all excited to see his confidence grow.”
Mandrills are primates and are native to West-Central Africa, and Brody was part of the “Africa!” exhibit at the zoo.
Officials say Brody’s exhibit-mates, named Tara and Kofola, are still at the zoo.
