PEORIA, Ill. — Peoria Park District will be celebrating Carl Cannon’s many years of service and achievements with a news conference on Wednesday, July 13 at the Noble Center.
Park District Executive Director Emily Cahill said in a release that Cannon officially retired on June 30, after 21 years of service.
At Wednesday’s event, the Park District will discuss Cannon’s next steps and what’s next for the ELITE Program after his retirement.
Cannon is expected to continue much of his programming under the umbrella of his non-profit organization ELITE Community Outreach.
“We certainly want to be good partners and supporters of his work, so we felt like it was really important to take the opportunity to have a press conference, share information and answer questions just about logistics of what that means for our organizations going forward as two separate entities,” Cahill said.
Over the years, Cannon’s ELITE Program has impacted thousands of youth and returning citizens in the Peoria community.
“On behalf of our District and the families we serve, I extend my sincere gratitude to Carl and his passionate commitment to making Peoria a better place. People like Carl don’t come along very often and Peoria is lucky to have benefitted from his efforts,” Cahill said.
Wednesday’s news conference at the Noble Center for Park District Administration is set to begin at 10:30 a.m.
