RICHMOND, VA – Police have announced details in an investigation which led to the reported arrest of two suspects accused of likely plotting a mass shooting attack on Independence Day.
Richmond Police Chief Gerald Smith told reporters Wednesday afternoon his officers received a tip from a “hero” witness, who informed investigators of a possible local mass shooting plot in the making.
The caller had informed officers they may have themselves overheard those plans in the making.
Chief Smith said his local officers “along with Homeland Security and our special investigations team” responded to an address where they later found evidence corroborating the witness’s account.
Authorities seized assault rifles, a handgun and 223 rounds of ammunition from the home, Smith said.
“There is no telling how many lives this hero citizen saved”, said Smith.
Details about suspect identities are unclear, but both of the alleged plotters are currently being charged with counts of “non-U.S. citizen in possession of a firearm”
