UTICA, Ill. – The recent fire near Starved Rock State Park has officially been ruled an accident.
That’s the word the Utica Fire Protection District gave to 25 News.
The fire on Memorial Day at the Grand Bear Resort started, authorities say, due to an unattended grill on a porch.
The blaze quickly spread due to high gusty winds, and destroyed 28 units over seven cabins on the property, along with seven vehicles.
No fire hydrants on site meant the 61 fire departments working to put the fire out had to haul water in — an estimated 5,000,000 gallons worth.
The damage estimate is around $4 million.
