PEORIA, Ill. – Peoria Police Chief Eric Echevarria says the heatwave isn’t stopping his officers from getting violent criminals off the streets.
That’s evidenced by the latest directed patrol under the chief’s Anti-Violence Initiative happening Tuesday.
Roger Mitchell, 20, was one of four people arrested during the detail. Police, responding to a report of a suspicious person, say they found a loaded gun on Mitchell near Republic and Delaware in the East Bluff. Mitchell was found to be wanted on a Knox County warrant, and is being charged here with Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon.
Police also say of two vehicles that fled from officers during the detail, one was later found. Twelve tickets were issued during the detail, and two vehicles were impounded.
“Even through this heat wave the Peoria Police Department will not stop its initiative to reduce violence in our great city,” said Echevarria, in a news release. “I will remind those that want to commit violence that we will continue to use every resource we have available to make Peoria safer.”
Various PPD divisions were utilized in the detail, as was Illinois State Police and their Air Operations division.
