SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – The number of new COVID-19 cases in Illinois declined in the last week, but the Illinois Department of Public Health says the number of counties with “high” community spread went up.
Peoria and Tazewell Counties were already at high levels, but now 13 others are on that list, including Fulton County.
“It’s recommended that people gather outside as much as possible,” said Mike Claffey, IDPH spokesperson. “If you’re going to be gathering inside the home, and especially in areas with high or medium level COVID cases, you want to have windows open. You want to have fans to keep the air circulating.”
Woodford County, according to the CDC went from a “Medium” level of community spread, to “Low.”
“At a time when COVID case rates are slowly rising in many parts of the state, if you’re a person who is immunocompromised and vulnerable to serious outcome, you want to be very careful. You don’t want to be in large crowds without wearing a mask,” said Claffey.
37,000 new cases were added in the last week, down from 40,000 the week before.
