PEORIA, Ill. – Peoria Police Chief Eric Echevarria says 12 people were arrested, drugs were seized, vehicles impounded, and two guns seized during the department’s latest Anti-Violence Initiative detail.
Echevarria says the latest detail was Wednesday.
According to the department, among the most significant things that happened was the arrest of Javarion Hudson, 18. A traffic stop on North Ellis happened due to an expired registration, but officers say they found a loaded gun and illegal drugs in the car.
Hudson faces three felony weapons charges along with weapons offenses, and is jailed.
Another significant event during the initiative, police say, happened in the afternoon, where officers say after a traffic stop on North Ellis for a moving violation, they arrested Eshayah Aguirre, 20, allegedly after he fled the vehicle and hit an officer with the car door. Aguirre allegedly pulled a handgun during the chase, but dropped it.
He faces weapons counts including Possession of a Defaced Firearm, and Aggravated Battery to a Police Officer, and is jailed.
“Our dedicated officers conducted (Wednesday) night’s Directed Patrol in rainy weather,” said Echevarria, in a news release. “This only shows how committed the men and women of the Peoria Police Department are when it comes to fighting crime. We will continue to do our part to eradicate illegal drugs and violent crimes from our streets.”
