Update: 9:19 a.m. (5/11) — The Peoria County Sheriff’s Office has released a statement about the crash that happened late Tuesday afternoon on Interstate 74 near Morton.
The department said Tuesday night the deputy suffered serious injuries when another vehicle struck the back of the squad car as the deputy was returning from training in Normal.
The deputy was taken to OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
“Miraculously, our deputy was not injured worse than he was and we are praying for healing and a full recovery,” the sheriff’s office said.
“We are grateful for all the support for our deputy,” the sheriff’s office also said.
Illinois State Police issued several citations to the other driver including: Following Too Closely, Driving Too Fast for Conditions, Improper Lane Usage and Unlawful Possession of Medical Marijuana.
MORTON, Ill. -At least one person is injured following a crash in Tazewell County allegedly involving a Peoria County Sheriffs Deputy.
25 News reports a Sheriffs Department official indicates the deputy was involved in the crash that happened around 4:10 p.m. Tuesday on Interstate 74 east of Morton at Mile Marker 107.
Illinois State Police say one person was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
