PEORIA, Ill. – Peoria County’s coroner says the death of a West Peoria man, found in the East Bluff neighborhood early Monday morning, is now being investigated as a homicide.
Jamie Harwood says Michael Jones, Jr., 31, likely died instantly from a single gunshot wound to the upper body, based on an autopsy.
Jones’ body was found in an alleyway near Behrends and Maryland by a passerby who notified police at approximately 2:50 a.m.

PEORIA, Ill. — Peoria police are investigating the death of a man who was found unresponsive in an alley early Monday morning.
Peoria Public Information Officer Semone Roth said officers responded to the area of E. Behrends and N. Maryland Avenues around 2:50 a.m., finding a man down with obvious signs of trauma.
Though life saving measures were performed, the man could not be revived and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The cause and manner of death will be released by the Peoria County coroner.
