PEORIA, Ill. – It might have rained on the Peoria Rivermen’s parade, but that didn’t stop the team and fans from celebrating the team’s Southern Professional Hockey League President’s Cup championship.
The parade featured all the Rivermen players riding a Peoria Fire truck through downtown and ending at the Civic Center.
Longtime fan Mike Olson tells 25 News for him, the Rivermen victory is kind of a big deal.
“We’ve won at every level — the A, the AA and the AAA,” said Olson “Coach Trudel and Bart Rodgers and his staff, they do a great job. Of course the players it just works its way down and you’ve got to have the people at the top giving you that chance.”
Some fans even traveled to Virginia to watch the Rivermen beat the Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs for the President’s Cup. That includes Steveb Delinski.
“It was loud those two nights,” Delinski told 25 News. “It was extremely loud, but it was a beautiful silence when that goal went in man.. It was a beautiful silence.”
Peoria Mayor Rita Ali was among those who spoke at the Peoria Civic Center at the victory celebration.
