PEORIA, Ill. – Another Peoria Starbucks location wants to unionize — not long after employees at the Starbucks in Campustown voted to do the same thing.
Workers United says “an overwhelming majority” of workers at Starbucks near Knoxville and Pioneer Parkway signed union authorization cards.
The organization says more than 25 stores nationwide have joined movements to unionize.
“Starbucks calls it’s [sic] employees ‘partners’, but it is abundantly clear that this so-called partnership is one of convenience for the company, that leaves many employee concerns unheard,” said Kathy Hanshew, vice president, Workers United International, in a news release. “It is time for Starbucks to do the right thing, acknowledge the voice of their partners, and allow their workers to unionize without interference.”
In a letter shared to Twitter, the Knoxville and Pioneer Parkway employees wrote that they want to grow alongside Starbucks.
