PEORIA, Ill. – The man accused of shooting and killing another man late Tuesday night in a South Peoria home is so far claiming self defense made him do it.
25 News reports that’s what John Nichols III told investigators as he was arrested, originally on murder and other charges connected to the death of Robert Sims, Jr., 37.
Sims was found in a home on West Wiswall, and it was learned in court Thursday Nichols thought Sims was going to shoot him first, so he opened fire.
Prosecutors have so far only charged Nichols with Possession of a Firearm by a Felon, but say they’re weighing more.
He’ll be back in court May 26th for arraignment, and is jailed on $150,000 bond.
