PEORIA, Ill. — Peoria Police have announced charges in connection with a violent carjacking and alleged attempted robbery that happened late Monday.
Officers say a man identified as 51-year-old Murray Shipp turned himself in and was interviewed by detectives.
He was later charged with counts of Vehicular Hijacking, Aggravated Battery with Motor Vehicle, Battery and Attempted Robbery.
Officers were called around 2:15 p.m. to N. Knoxville and Nebraska Avenues.
A female driver told police she was sitting in her vehicle and was approached by a male suspect who “forcefully” removed her from the vehicle.
PPD said the suspect drove off, striking a female bystander before abandoning the vehicle on W. Main Street.
Both women were taken to a local hospital with what were described as non-life threatening injuries.

PPD canvased the area where the vehicle was found, but did not find the suspect.
The incident remains under investigation.
