PEORIA, Ill. — A high scoring league leader and rookie for the Peoria Rivermen has earned high praise as he leads the home team in an SPHL playoff run this month.
While the Rivermen begin second round playoff action this week, the team learned that Marcel Godbout (#58) has earned the Southern Professional Hockey League’s “Rookie of the Year” honors.
Godbout scored a league leading 33 goals this past season, which is also a team record for goals scored in a single season.
He has had three hat tricks since he began playing with the Rivermen as well as eight multi-goal games during the regular season.
Spirits are certainly riding high among Rivermen fans as the team recently eliminated the Pensacola Ice Flyers from playoff contention.
The Rivermen now face the Quad City Storm for a best-of-three series.
The Rivermen travel for game one of the series on Wednesday and then games two and three will be at home at Carver Arena on Friday and Saturday, April 22 and 23.
