SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – It’s probably news you don’t want to hear, but the Illinois Department of Public Health is issuing a new warning about COVID-19.
The state says while hospitalizations and deaths from COVID remain, in their words, “stable” at this time, they’re warning that case rates are “slowly rising” in many parts of the state.
New IDPH director Amaal Tokars says it’s a reminder to stay up-to-date on vaccination and booster status.
“This is especially important for those who are at higher risk for serious outcomes,” said Tokars, in a news release.
Officials say the state has also replenished its stockpile of COVID-19 tests, with more on the way.
The state has had nearly 3.1 million confirmed cases since the pandemic began, with more than 33,000 confirmed and 4,300 probable deaths.
