PEORIA, Ill. – We haven’t heard about one in awhile, but Peoria Police Chief Eric Echevarria says the special enforcement details continue as part of his anti-violence initiative.
The chief says the most recent detail was Thursday. 34 vehicles were stopped, 10 arrests were made, 14 tickets issued, and three vehicles were impounded, among other results.
During part of the initiative, a stolen vehicle was spotted on North MacArthur, a gun inside the vehicle was allegedly reported stolen, and the man arrested — Kareem Davenport, 44 — is believed to have had fraudulent I-D cards from another states, keys to “several high-end vehicles” were found, and a “large amount of paperwork” for car loans and credit cards were found in an Alta Road apartment.
Davenport faces nine felony charges, including Aggravated Unalwful Use of a Weapon, Deceptive Practices, and other counts.
During another part of the initiative, police say they located a man wanted for the alleged arson at the Lexington Hill Apartments office, and later found the vehicle involved. Curtis Lamar, 33, is jailed on a count of Arson.
The suspect was not identified.
“I am proud of the job the men and women of this department are doing to rid our streets of violent offenders,” said Echevarria, in a news release. “During each of these Directed Patrols, they have placed their lives on the line to make sure, illegal guns, drugs and criminals are off the streets of our great city. These dedicated officers are making a positive difference here when it comes to fighting crime.”
