PEORIA, Ill. – A Peoria man has entered not guilty pleas to charges accusing him of assaulting a woman, and causing a fire.
Peoria County Court records indicate William Drummond, 51, entered the pleas Thursday to felony charges of Arson, Home Invasion, and Domestic Battery, all filed by a grand jury.
A host of other charges Drummond originally was arrested on weren’t filed.
Drummond allegedly entered a woman’s home near Phelps and Adams in the North Valley January 24th, hit her in the head, then set the woman’s van, parked outside the home, on fire.
A judge denied a request to grant Drummond a new Public Defender. He could go on trial as soon as May 16th, and remains jailed.
The Home Invasion charge is the most serious of the three, a Class X felony. Drummond, who already has a long list of arrests on his record, could face up to 30 years in prison if convicted on that charge alone.
