PEORIA, Ill. — Peoria’s annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade will be back for the first time since the pandemic began on Thursday.
Peoria Police Chief Eric Echevarria told WMBD’s “The Greg and Dan Show”, they’ll have downtown intersections blocked off and a strong police presence at the parade.
The chief knows everyone just wants to have a good time.
“We remind people to drive safely, avoid distractions, don’t drive impaired. If you see somebody walking down the street, move over, slow down…get a designated driver if you need it,” Echevarria said.
Peoria’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade is one of the largest in Illinois and is run entirely by volunteers from the St. Patrick Society of Peoria.
The parade steps off at 11 a.m. at the corner of Monroe and Kumpf.
The staging area will be in the 200-400 blocks of Romeo B. Garett.
Parking will be prohibited along Monroe and Main, along the parade route. Meters will be bagged.
The following intersections will be impacted by the parade:
Kumpf & Monroe
Monroe & Fulton
Monroe & Main
Madison & Main
Jefferson & Main
Adams & Main
Adams & Hamilton
If you plan on driving downtown during the parade, plan on extra time to get where you’re going on time and be aware of significant pedestrian traffic.
