CHICAGO, Ill. — Former Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan pleaded not guilty to racketeering, bribery, wire fraud and extortion charges Wednesday in his first court appearance.
Of 22 corruption counts, several involve a maximum sentence of 20 years in jail, and $250,000 in legal fees.
According to 25 News, Madigan does not have to put up bond due to predetermined agreements.
Madigan did not speak on his own behalf during Wednesday’s court appearance.
A status hearing is scheduled for April 1. Madigan will not be required to be there.
