EAST PEORIA, Ill. — There will be two more short term rental businesses coming to East Peoria, bringing more steady growth to a more recent evolution in the lodging business.
On Tuesday night, East Peoria City Council voted to allow special use permits for a company called JEG Properties to develop two VRBO-style business properties in town, one at 326 Park Avenue and another at 814 Springfield Road.
The new location on Park Avenue is tucked into a residential neighborhood well up into the hills east of the Illinois River.
It appears to be a traditional single family home.
According to council discussion Tuesday, the Springfield Road rental business will be the larger of the two. It will have parking capacity for at least 5 vehicles and could host as many as 10 guests.
The Springfield Road rental business will be located not far from the East Peoria Festival of Lights.
East Peoria’s local zoning board approved new regulations for short-term rental owners last year.
One of the new rules is, “special use will expire with the ownership of the house, ” explained Commissioner Mark Hill during the discussion.
Council approved the two new businesses with a unanimous 5 to 0 vote.
This will bring the total number of new short term rental businesses in East Peoria to nearly a dozen. “Ten or so” as was described by council members on Tuesday.
