PEORIA, Ill. — Fire damaged a home on W. Malone in Peoria Monday night, but a family of four and their pets were unharmed.
Fire Battalion Chief Clint Kuhlman said a woman and three children were home when the fire broke out, but escaped before crews arrived.
Firefighters rescued several cats and dogs from inside the home.
The call came in about 5:45 p.m. and crews found heavy smoke coming from an upstairs front window.
Damage was estimated at $30,000, and displaced the residents, Chief Kuhlman said.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
