PEORIA, Ill. – There are now two candidates once again for Peoria County Sheriff in this year’s elections.
Lieutenant Jason Buckley is officially announcing his candidacy in the June primary.
Buckley says he’s been in the Sheriffs Department for 21 years, the last ten as patrol lieutenant. In a statement, Buckley says he’d lead the department with “integrity, teamwork, wisdom, humility, compassion, and commitment.”
“Leadership is one of the most humbling attributes one can possess,” said Buckley in a social media post. “There is a significant difference in leading from the front vs leading from the back. I CHOOSE to lead from the front.”
Buckley is so far facing Patrol Captain Chris Watkins. Watkins has the support of outgoing Sheriff Brian Asbell.
The announcement comes weeks after Deputy Blaine Duhs dropped out days after getting in.
