PEORIA, Ill. – “Our anti-violence initiative is working.”
Those are the words of Peoria Police Chief Eric Echevarria in a news release, which says another such special detail happened Tuesday.
Police say 19 traffic stops were conducted, ten people were arrested, illegal drugs, a gun, and drug equipment were seized, two vehicles were impounded, and four tickets were issued.
The detail happened despite an armed police standoff occurring at the same time, and resulted in, among other arrests, Jordan Watkins, 44, who was wanted for Predatory Criminal Sexual Assault from a case last year.
Also during the detail, police say they arrested Jimmy Williams, 18, after he allegedly fled on foot during an investigation in the 2400 block of West Marquette. He faces charges of Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Defaced Firearm, and Resisting Police.
“Our Anti-Violence Initiative is working. Our officers are going above and beyond to bring order back to our city,” said Peoria Police Chief Eric Echevarria, in a news release. “We will continue to arrest violent offenders who are committing crimes, and confiscate illegal weapons from our streets. A positive change is happening in our city, and it’s a change that is long overdue.”
