PEORIA, Ill. – A Peoria woman, described by a federal judge as “one of the most prolific” drug dealers in the area despite a minimal criminal history, is going to prison on federal methamphetamine-related charges.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office says Donna Mark, 39, was sentenced Thursday to 14 years in prison after pleading guilty last August to Possession of Methamphetamine with Intent to Distribute.
Federal prosecutors say when Mark was arrested at a Morton motel in March of 2021, she allegedly had nine pounds worth of ice meth in her possession, along with a small amount of heroin, mushrooms, and more than $21,000 in cash.
“This highly potent, readily available drug brings out the absolute worst in people and wreaks havoc in our communities,” said Kathryn Legge, Assistant U.S. Attorney, in a news release. “Our focus to keep communities safe by disrupting drug dealers at the top of the food chain will continue.”
A judge reportedly noted, in addition to the limited criminal history, that Mark had struggled with drug addiction in her life, in handing down the sentence.
