WASHINGTON, D.C. (FOX News) — In the coming days, the White House is expected to launch a website that will allow Americans the ability to order free, at-home rapid COVID-19 tests.
This comes after the White House faced bipartisan criticism over a shortage of COVID testing supplies as the highly transmissable Omicron variant quickly spread, prompting a rise in cases.
Speaking on ABC’s “This Week” — U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy discussed where things stand regarding the pandemic and testing.
“Case numbers are high and hospitals are struggling. That’s one of the reasons why we have surged so many people from the federal government to support hospital systems, and why we’ve sent millions of pieces of equipment to them,” Murthy said.
Murthy adds, “In regards to testing, our president said clearly back in December, that we have made a lot of progress on testing, but we have a lot more to do.”
According to the White House — starting January 19 — Americans will be able to order up to four free tests, per residential address through the new website.
