CHICAGO, Ill. — Illinois is launching a new COVID-19 vaccine campaign in hopes of reaching people who are still on the fence about getting the shots.
The initial rollout features four videos from Illinoisans who were initially hesitant about getting the vaccine. That includes Ken, a pastor from Danville who, along with his wife, caught the virus.
“Went on a trip to take in my nephew’s wedding that resulted in my wife passing, resulted in me ending up in the hospital for three weeks. If we had received the vaccination prior to getting COVID, I am fully confident that things would have come out differently.”
More videos in the “On The Fence” campaign will be released in coming weeks, according to Gov. Pritzker’s office.
According to the C-D-C, the unvaccinated are 17 times more likely to be hospitalized with COVID than those who have gotten their shots and the booster.
Shannon is a nurse from Quincy who contracted the virus over a year ago, but she’s still not been able to return to work.
“It’s true I didn’t die, but it absolutely took my life. And, I am working every day to get back to the person I was pre-COVID.”
The “On The Fence” spots will be aired in both English and Spanish.
