WEST DES MOINES, Ia. — Peoria’s two Hy-Vee grocery stores may soon have actual security guards patrolling them.
The Iowa-based chain says it’s previously worked with third-party security contractors and off-duty police officers.
But now, they say they’re launching an actual “Hy-Vee Retail Security Team.”
It’s not clear how many security officers they’re hiring, but say many already have law enforcement backgrounds, and they’re looking to hire more.
“Hy-Vee has a strong history of doing anything for our customers, and these officers will be held to that same standard,” said Jeremy Gosch, Hy-Vee’s president and chief operating officer, in a news release. “These officers will help provide another layer of safety and security for our customers, and will work alongside our store employees to deliver the same helpful smiles and outstanding service everyone expects at their local store.”
The company says the goal is helping “ensure the health and safety of both its customers and employees.”
Those who want to apply for jobs on the security team are asked to contact them at RetailSecurity@hy-vee.com.
Peoria’s Hy-Vee stores are near the Shoppes at Grand Prairie, and in the Sheridan Village shopping center.
