Peoria, Ill –Peoria leaders want to discuss the problem of increased violence in the city.
Today, Peoria Police Chief Eric Echavarria is scheduled to offer remarks on the issue, aiming to, “send a message to those who are committing violent crimes in the city.”
The release says his statement will be brief, but will, “explain his commitment” to solving the problem.
At the same time, we learn a group of Peoria City Council members has agreed to meet and discuss the issue.
2nd District Councilman Charles Grayeb organized the improptu-meeting for Thursday at St. Marks School gymnasium at 711 North Underhill Street. It’s scheduled to start around 6:30 p.m.
The city is on pace for a record number of homicides in 2021 with that figure now standing at 34.
