EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – Illinois Governor JB Pritzker is continuing to remember the six people who lost their lives in Friday night’s tornado in Edwardsville, Illinois, that caused part of an Amazon.com warehouse to collapse.
Pritzker is also praising the local first responders who got to the scene quickly.
“They moved heaven and earth to respond to this disaster, reuniting families when they could, and comforting loved ones in the tragic situations where they couldn’t,” said Pritzker.
Pritzker says he’s approved a state disaster declaration for all areas where there was damage following the Friday night storms, and all areas that lost electricity have now been restored.
Meanwhile, Amazon is answering questions about what happened at the plant Friday night.
“The thing I kind of want to emphasize is the heroic nature of all 46 people who were in that building,” said John Feldman, Senior Vice President of Global Delivery Services for Amazon. “They definitely saved lives.”
Pritzker says six employees clocked in that night, and never got the chance to clock back out.
