PEORIA, Ill. – A local medical expert says while the Omicron variant of COVID-19 is getting our attention, it’s still not the variant that’s the big problem yet.
Doctor Doug Kasper with the U of I College of Medicine tells WMBD’s “The Greg and Dan Show” Delta is still spreading pretty well.
“Regionally, cases are going up, which is still being driven by Delta spread,” said Kasper. “This is being seen in two ways. It’s being seen and spreading in people who have not completed vaccination, and it’s being seen and spreading in people who are greater than six months out from completing vaccination.”
So Kasper says the solution is simple.
“The most pressing issue right now is to get people to complete vaccination, and — if applicable — a complete booster shot series, to protect themselves from the high levels we are seeing in the region,” said Kasper.
While increasing, the Peoria City/County Health Department recently said case increases aren’t as high as they were earlier in the year.
Kasper, meanwhile, says it’s good that there have been increases in first-time vaccinations.
