PEORIA, Ill. — Peoria firefighters fought not only flames, but high winds just after 7 a.m. Monday as they responded to a fire in the 1500 block of N. Broadway.
Crews attempted an interior attack and search of the two-story home, but were forced back outside for their safety.
Once the fire was under control, firefighters were able to re-enter the home to complete a search for victims and knock the fire down completely.
Fire officials say both tenants of the home escaped before crews arrived.
The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
Peoria code enforcement determined the home would need to be demolished.
