CHICAGO, Ill. – One of the top Democratic lawmakers in Springfield won’t be seeking another term.
State Representative Greg Harris of Chicago isn’t seeking another term when he current run ends in 2023.
Harris told reporters he doesn’t have any plans yet once his term officially ends.
Harris is one of the top budget negotiators at the Capitol, and has been House Majority Leader under current speaker Emmanuel “Chris” Welch and ousted speaker Michael Madigan.
Harris is also the first openly-gay lawmaker in the Illinois Legislature, having led the state to pass a law legalizing same-sex marriage.
