PEORIA, Ill. — A Peoria man has been charged with reckless homicide for a woman’s death following a street racing crash in early September.
According to court records, Darien Davis was driving at a high rate of speed and caused the multi-vehicle crash just after 11 p.m. on Sept. 4.
50-year-old Jacqueline McDuffie, who had Down syndrome, was ejected from the vehicle she was in, and was taken to a hospital in critical condition.
McDuffie suffered severe, multiple blunt force traumas and remained hospitalized until she succumbed to her injuries on Sept. 25.
In addition to the reckless homicide charge, Davis faces three charges of aggravated street racing.
Davis remains in custody of the Peoria County Sheriff’s Office and is expected to appear in court on Oct. 28 for arraignment.
Bond was set at $1 million.
