WASHINGTON, Ill. — Washington Police Chief Mike McCoy says a team of investigators are looking into a threat against Washington Community High School Monday morning.
McCoy spoke with news partner 25 News saying the police department has a plan of action ahead of the school day.
District #308 confirmed the threat in a post on Facebook, saying they are working with police “to determine the legitimacy of the information.”
“After talking to the chief of police and the mayor, we have a plan to keep our students safe when they return to school in the morning,” the post read. “We are encouraged that our students and parents immediately shared information with the school district, as we advise everyone to take these matters seriously.”
An increased police presence will be at the high school as students return Monday and will be present throughout the day.
School officials say students must report to school by 8:45 a.m. and must enter through the main entrance on Jefferson Street.
