PEORIA, Ill. — Questions are swirling over a video that was posted on social media depicting a woman who appears to have students around her — as she uses the N-word. The allegation is that the video features a secretary at Richwoods High School.
Peoria Public Schools Board President Greg Wilson confirms to news partner 25 News that school secretary Courtney Lewis is on leave and says an investigation over the video posted to social media is ongoing, so the board is not commenting.
But, if the video is accurate, he said it is unacceptable — unacceptable of any person working in a school district that is predominately African American.
“How would that make students feel?” he said. “If you are a student at Richwoods High School and you heard such a thing how would that make you feel?”
No matter how the administrative investigation works out, Wilson says he wants the students to know that word should not be used at any time.
