PEORIA, Ill. — The Peoria Civic Center will be full of gamers this weekend.
Matt Hartke, creator of the Midwest Dota 2 League, told WMBD’s “The Greg and Dan Show”, the tournament is the culmination of 9 weeks of group stages and wildcard playoffs.
“There will be around 100 players or so, and we expect a decent crowd. We have the capability of a lot of people being able to spectate…with at least 100 or so more,” Hartke said.
40 teams from the Midwest and Canada, with players of all ages, will compete in the Esports tournament on Saturday and Sunday.
Teams will be playing Dota 2 both in person at the Civic Center and online, according to Hartke.
Esports continues to gain popularity among people of all ages.
A full-time Esports facility opened last week at Landmark Plaza in Peoria, with games and tournaments now sanctioned by the IHSA.
