PEORIA, Ill. – In terms of COVID-19 local statistics, you asked for it.
Peoria City/County Health Department Administrator Monica Hendrickson says starting Thursday, they will have a new information graphic available on their website and Facebook pages detailing some of the latest COVID-19 data.
“A lot of this came from feedback from community members, our public, Facebook messaging, even you in our media, about just making sure that our data is being presented, especially now that we are over a year and half in to this response,” Hendrickson told reporters during the weekly Tri-County COVID-19 briefing Thursday.”
You can see Thursday’s graphic above.
Meanwhile, the Tri-County area now has confirmed 51,512 cases of COVID-19, an increase of 711 over the last week.
One death in Peoria County was reported in the last day, bringing the total to 813 deaths in the area, an increase of four in the last week.
Sixteen beds in local hospital ICU’s are being used for COVID patients, while 57 non-ICU beds are in use.
In Peoria County, 22 percent of active cases are among those ages 10-19, 19 percent are among those ages 30-39, and 14 percent are among those ages zero to nine.
Meanwhile, the Peoria City/County Health Department is playing a waiting game on just when booster shots can be rolled out.
So far, FDA and CDC advisory panels have backed giving a third dose of Pfizer’s COVID vaccine to those 65 and older and to those who may have underlying medical conditions. But, Hendrickson says just what that looks like remains to be seen.
“Once we get the [CDC Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices] guidelines, us as providers will be able to then provide those booster Pfizer vaccines accordingly,” said Hendrickson.
Hendrickson says that’s not to be confused with what’s already been okayed, which is a third dose of Pfizer or Moderna COVID vaccines to those who are moderately or severely immunocompromised.
