PEORIA, Ill. — Peoria’s Walk to Defeat ALS each year raises money for innovation toward a treatment and ultimately a cure for ALS.
ALS, or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord.
Kendra Albers with the ALS Association told WMBD’s “The Greg and Dan Show”, due to COVID-19, mini walks will go on Saturday, September 11, just like last year.
“Individuals wherever they are, whatever their comfortability is in regards to being in large crowds or not, they can create their own mini walk,” Albers said.
Given the autoimmune issue that individuals living with ALS have, Albers said it’s not worth the risk of bringing them all together at Dozer Park.
“We’re hopeful that next year we can be together,” Albers said.
