SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – The Illinois House and Senate will return to Springfield on Tuesday, August 31 for a special session focused on redistricting.
Lawmakers will discuss potential changes in the legislative maps passed by Democrats this spring. Data from the 2020 Census will be used to determine where changes need to be made.
Both chambers approved the current legislative map on May 28. Gov. J-B Pritzker later signed the map into law on June 4.
Republicans had hoped the governor would veto the proposed map and support an independent redistricting process.
