PEORIA, Ill. – Fire in Peoria’s West Bluff claimed three dogs.
Firefighters responded to a report of a house fire at 1637 W. Main St. at 7:14 p.m. Saturday. They arrived to find smoke coming from the second story of the three-story home.
The fire, which was centered in the kitchen, had spread into a wall and into the attic.
The occupant was not at home at the start of the fire and reported there were three dogs in the house.
Battalion Chief Scott Strum said one dog was located early into the incident, but could not be revived by firefighters. The other two dogs were located later and were deceased.
One firefighter was transported to a hospital due to heat exhaustion. Strum said the firefighter was expected to be treated and released.
Extra companies were called to the scene to relieve exhausted firefighters due to the heat from the blaze and the hot weather.
Strum said the home suffered extreme fire and smoke damage. The cause of the fire is listed as accidental.
