PEORIA, Ill. – A Peoria police officer was one of two people shot in the city’s North Valley.
Sgt. Amy Dotson said the officer observed a large group of people fighting around 12:15 a.m. Sunday at Adams and Green Streets.
The officer stopped his vehicle and notified dispatch, and as he exited his vehicle he was struck in the leg by gunfire. His vehicle was also possibly hit.
First responding officers transported the officer to a hospital where he was last reported in stable condition.
A few minutes later, another victim from the same incident arrived at a hospital by private vehicle. The victim, an adult male, suffered what is described as a non-life threatening injury from a gunshot wound.
Dotson said preliminary information gathered at the scene indicated the officer did not return gunfire.
The incident remains under investigation.
