SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) Friday reported 7,983 new cases of COVID-19, including 47 additional deaths since last Friday.
According to IDPH, more than 73% of Illinois adults have received at least one COVID-19 vaccine dose. More than 58% are fully vaccinated.
The positivity rate across the state continues to climb and is now at 3.5%.
IDPH Director Dr. Ngozi Ezike said Illinois is seeing a pandemic of the unvaccinated.
“We are seeing the overwhelming majority of cases, hospitalizations, and deaths are among those who are not vaccinated,” said Ezike.
According to Ezike, more than 90% of cases, hospitalizations, and deaths are among unvaccinated people.
More than 13 million doses of vaccines have been administered throughout the state.
